Rockwood Station
About
Rockwood Station was first settled in 1852 by Henry Phillips and their family. It is now owned and farmed by Henry's Great Great Grandson. The current Homestead was built in 1910 in the Art Nouveau style and is bordered by 100 acres of native bush and the Rockwood Stream. The Homestead main rooms have recently been redecorated.
We are surrounded by the beautiful woodland garden which dates back to the 1850s and includes English trees, Rhododendrons, the original 1850s Cob house, family graves and amazing birdlife. Some of the garden's original features still remain. An Arboretum has recently been started.
House and Garden tours including morning tea are available, or simply bring a picnic, and sit and relax for a while. - Bookings are essential
We have two accommodation options at Rockwood Station.
The Old Shearers Hut
The Old Shearers Hut is located in the shearing yards at the entrance of our property. The hut has been upgraded and is the perfect place to stop and relax whilst enjoying the nature and the scent of the native beech trees surrounding you.
The hut boasts an antique copper shower, a wood burner, a kitchenette and a double bed with a set of bunks, so it's well suited for a family break or a quiet getaway.
The Summer House
The Summer House was designed by hosts, Cheryl and Ben, to be a peaceful, retreat ... an oasis of calm for busy lives, a space to switch off, unplug and soak up the natural surroundings of their stunning high country farm. Native birds to New Zealand such as wood pigeons, bellbirds, fantails and kingfishers are regular visitors around the summer house.
The accommodation consists of a large single room with a well-appointed kitchen, double bedroom and lounge area. A bathroom, with a luxurious deep spa bath, is accessed from the deck outside. You can soak up the stunning scenery whilst taking a relaxing bath.
The Summer house has its own private outdoor fireplace and beautifully landscaped sitting area, which sits right above the Rockwood Stream that runs immediately in front of the Summer House. The sound is magic and so relaxing.
In the warm months of the year, you can enjoy a dip in the stream's swimming holes, have a barbecue or try toasting marshmallows on the outdoor fire.
You'll be so relaxed you won't want to leave.
