The Phat Duck restaurant and bar

Ashburton, Canterbury

About

A NEW NAME, A NEW EXPERIENCE
When searching for a new name, proprietors Skip and AJ wanted something that reflected the local area, but they just couldn’t crack it.
Then one day Skip was looking out the window when he saw a rather over-weight duck struggling to take off from the stream next to the restaurant. “That’s it”, thought Skip, in an illuminating light bulb moment. “We’ll call it The Phat Duck!” And that, as they say, was that.
The Phat Duck is independently owned and run by husband and wife team Skip and AJ. Skip and AJ met as flatmates more than 18 years ago, and immediately hit it off. They have many years working in hospitality together and love what they do.
Their aim is to create an inviting venue, where customers feel they can relax just as if they were in their own lounge… where locals can bring their families and enjoy being part of the community… and where customers become friends.
The Phat duck menu is put together by our team of creative culinary geniuses.
