About
You can find the Māori Lakes on the drive to Lake Heron on Hakatere Heron Rd on your left.
The Maori Lakes are two highland lakes, lying due south of Lake Heron. They are small in size and shallow, covering an area of approximately 10 hectares, with a maximum depth of just 0.8 m. There are no formal walks around the lakes, but fishing is permitted with a licence and in season, picnics are a great option and bird watching is fabulous.
Please note that unpowered boats only are permitted for use on the Māori Lakes and rowboats must be anchored.
