Above & Beyond – Snowgrass Hut

Secluded within a large high-country station, Snowgrass hut provides two people, a retreat into mountains, nature, solitude and silence a lifetime away, less than 90 minutes drive across the plains from Christchurch.

This is a deliberately simple building for simple pleasures – a fire to light, a meal to prepare, companionship and a book to read. By day, it embraces the big skies and mountains beyond, but as night falls or bad weather approaches it looks inwards, a refuge and shelter from the storm.

The kitchen is compact and discreetly integrated into the living area. It features a stainless steel bench with a two burner gas hob while food can also be cooked on the top of the adjacent little wood burner or BBQ'd in the porch outside.   There is a comprehensive range of pots, pans, appliances, utensils and a Nespresso coffee machine.

Your bedroom is comfortably furnished with a queen size bed, panel heater and dimmable reading lights. Bedding includes electric blankets, quality linen and woollen throws. Inbuilt USB chargers are available on either side of the bed with a selection of books tailored for short reads.

The bathroom is appointed with heated towel rails, quality bath products, luxurious towels, hair dryer, Bathrobes and slippers for use around the hut. There is an excellent high pressure shower with plenty of hot water provided via a gas califont.    

The covered porch is the perfect spot for lunching outdoors through most of the year or to linger during long summer evenings. On the deck outside you will find a Stoked hot tub. Great for tired bodies after a long session mountain biking or hiking while soaking in the views as the sun sets over the mountain ranges beyond.
